I am a designer who believes everyone should have access to an authentic digital-presence that expresses who they are and what they represent. For the past fifteen years I’ve been teaching individuals in the field of human services to engage others around their own experiences. Today I use those skills to assist small business owners and entrepreneurs in developing personal media that speaks to their core-values.

Hope Street for Runaway and Homeless Youth & My Portfolio

Web design, front-end development

As an academic exercise I redesigned Hope Street’s web-presence to improve focus on the youth, their volunteers, and their donor support. My design intent was to create a client-centered website that reimagined how to best assist youth in easily finding resources, understanding their circle of support, and helping them meet their immediate needs. In contrast my personal portfolio site is a flat design with beautiful, vivid images and lots of whitespace meant to highlight my individual talents. Both are hand-coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also have experience with PHP and WordPress.

Career Services 2017 Snapshot & Staff Highlight

Print Design

I designed an eight-page booklet and single page insert during my time working in the Career Services department on the Minneapolis Community & Technical College campus. I was charged with drastically expanding a trifold brochure that had been used in previous years to highlight the success of the department, as well as in creating an insert asking for an increase in funding to hire an additional staff member. An elegant and cohesive design strategy proved successful on both accounts.

Career Services Publicity

Digital & Print Design

As part of my time working in the Career Services department at Minneapolis Community & Technical College I was regularly asked to design promotional materials for the various events held on campus. This involve the creation of digital assets that were displayed on both vertical and horizontal screens, sandwich boards, flyers, hand-outs, invitations, and the like. I excelled at providing a singular design focus to assist brand recognition and recall before, during, and after events. My work helped ensured that all avenues capable of demonstrating the department’s viability were utilized.

Self Portrait & Five Lessons

Digital Illustration

I regularly enjoyed developing my skill-set as an Illustrator. With each new project I gain valuable insight that I use in my subsequent work. The self-portrait was the very first visual artwork I had ever attempted on a computer. Creating elements such as the beard were grueling and monotonous while learning to understand the software that brought it to fruition. The Five Lessons piece was completed later on in my development and incorporated designed elements such as shape, scale, proportion, symmetry, texture, pattern, layering, transparency and the like.

Content Creation

As a designer it is paramount that I continually expand my repertoire to better understand the depths of what goes into a project. Therefore, I pursue knowledge that betters my capacity to do my craft well. Understanding how to create content that is meaningful and effective takes a willing participant to work across the aisle with specialized artists, for my own benefit and as a member of a team. Currently I am studying the ins-and-outs of digital photography, including such techniques as lighting design, portraiture, architectural shooting, and action shots.
